Feature Comparison Dremel 4200 vs. 4000

So which one is better in the Dremel 4000 vs. Dremel 4200 debate? It does seem like the 4200 isn’t really all that different, at least when it comes to the major features. Mostly everything remains the same.

They both have a 1.6-amp motor and a speed range of 5,000 to 35,000 rpm. The electronic feedback circuitry maintains a constant speed when under load. You also get a separate on/off switch and speed dial.

You can hold them comfortably with the 360-degree grip. The cool-running ball bearing construction and the replaceable motor brushes extends the life of the tool. Any Dremel 4000 vs. 4200 review will note that.

What do you get are somehow minor differences. Sure, it’s better to have a 7-foot electrical cord in the 4200, but that’s just a foot in difference. The changes in the length and weight aren’t really groundbreaking.

Perhaps the Dremel 4000 vs. 4200 difference is in the chuck system, when this 4200 EZ Change system allows for wrench-less accessory changes.

The new system is an integrated pull lever system instead of a standard collet nut. While you do get to change accessories with a wrench, there have been some reported cases that some bits can get loose in the chuck. That can slow you down.

On the other hand, with the 4000 there’s really nothing wrong with the EZ twist. With the button release chuck system, you have a tried and tested way to easily change accessories.

Also, like the 4200 the 4000 is also compatible with all Dremel attachments and accessories. That means you can buy a kit with any number of accessories, and then if you want you can just buy more to suit your needs.

Final Verdict

It does seem to indicate that in this Dremel 4200 vs. 4000 review, it’s a virtual tie between the two.

It’s not that they’re exactly the same. It’s just that the changes aren’t all that major, and it not really certain that the changes are also actually improvements. Much of this uncertainty has to do with the 4200’s EZ Change system.

That’s not to say that the 4200 is a no-go. In fact, it’s a good buy considering the many gushing reviews it has received. But the 4000 has long been a reliable option. The 4200 may be newer, but there’s certainly no consensus that it’s better.

In other words, in the Dremel 4000 vs. 4200 comparison you can say that the 4000 is a sure thing. The jury is still out on the 4200, however. Buy the 4000 if you want to be sure, but if you’re willing to take the risk the 4200 is a good purchase as well.

I have to agree the 4200 dremel rotary tool is best for diyers I being one of them. It comes in very handy. It’s faster even under heavy load than the 4000 dremel rotary tool. I also like the fact that it has an electronic feedback. So it wins that it’s better than the other one. Thanks for the help.
